Brief Overview of My Professional Career

Watch Video
I have 25+ years of experience in creative services and digital marketing for both small businesses and non-profit organizations. I spent 22 years as a graphic designer and digital media coordinator at Learning Without Tears, a family owned business specializing in education materials to teach handwriting, early learning, and keyboarding.
It seems a bit kismet considering I had horrible penmanship as a child despite always loving to write, eventually earning my MFA in Creative Writing from George Mason University. I love learning about graphic design, web administration, email marketing, event management, and social media both on the job and in my 13 years volunteering with the Charlottesville Track Club. I’ve managed CTC’s online presence, social media, and email, designing logos and marketing materials, managing membership and race registration databases, administering training programs, and race directing long distance events. I have expertise with several content management systems such as Drupal, CMS-Plus, and WordPress; email marketing software including Bronto, Alterian, MailChimp, and Constant Contact; Adobe Creative Suite; Microsoft Office; Google analytics; and social media tools including Hootsuite and Social Studio. My academic background is in liberal arts with an MA in Women's Studies from The George Washington University and MFA in Creative Writing from George Mason University. About Me
Watch Video My name is Leah Connor and I as born in Findlay, OH a minute before my identical twin sister. We were raised with our older sister in Reading, PA. My dad was a successful strategic marketing consultant and my mother earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology. I worked in DC for 12 years and have lived in Charlottesville, VA since 2005. My favorite quote is: Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we might oft win by fearing to attempt. From “Measure for Measure” by Shakespeare I am not a huge Shakespeare fan, I prefer James Joyce, but my husband is an 18th century scholar who shared his colleague’s favorite Shakespeare quote with me back in 2012. It’s been a running mantra and trivia team name ever since! My favorite author is James Joyce. I got married on Bloomsday, June 16, the day depicted in his novel Ulysses. I named my son, Laoghaire Ignatius, after the Irish town Dún Laoghaire where you’ll find the James Joyce Tower & Museum and a character from the short story “A Little Cloud” in Dubliners. My daughter’s name, Annalivia Plurabelle, comes from a character in Finnegans Wake, who’s a personification of the River Liffey, which flows through Dublin. I am avid long-distance runner and RRCA certified race director and running coach, having complete 37 marathons (including Boston 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017 with my identical twin sister), but my proudest achievement is the creation of the Rivanna Greenbelt Marathon in 2014 which I continued to direct even during the pandemic. Running, walking, playing Pokémon GO, frequently texting my identical twin sister, and, on special occasions, cheering at a race in an inflatable costume is how you'll find me spending my weekends. |
