Explain how to do something that you are an expert at.
*This is your chance to prove that you've got what it takes to become an expert at a complex topic and explain things really well. Tell us what you're an expert at, and then explain how to do it. You can make a document, webpage, or video - you can put your how-to on DropBox, YouTube, Google Docs, a webpage, or any other online medium you're comfortable with. Links to pre-existing works will not be considered.

Ok, this is difficult, but I'm going to be honest:
Right now I"m an expert in being unemployed, unfortunately, because I haven't worked since September 18, 2020 and I'm very eager to start a new position!
When you're unemployed you have to know how to market yourself to various employers, constantly look for new opportunities, and be tenacious and persistent in all your efforts. I would encourage other people looking for work to keep a detailed Google spreadsheet documenting all your job contacts, resumes submitted, interview dates, etc. It's helped me immensely! I'd also recommend having multiple versions of your resume depending on the position. Personalize and tailor your cover letter and resume to match the requirements so that it's clear you are not blindly applying and know what the job is about.
If you are unemployed in Virginia you are fortunate enough to have the federal subsidy on unemployment benefits extended through the original date in September 2021. Sadly, states with Republican governors have decided to stop these much needed benefits because they think it keeps people from looking for or accepting work. I find this decision to be wrong and punishing to those who need help the most.
With my state benefit and the federal benefit I receive $600/week. That equals $15/hr for 40 hours a week. $15/hour in Charlottesville is the bare minimum living wage for a parent. My teenage daughter is making $13/hr at Wawa. I used to make twice what I'm receiving in unemployment benefits and I'm working 8-10 hours a day trying to find any opportunity that pays more than an entry level retail or food service job. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't demoralizing to be 50 years old and rejected from positions you are more than qualified and would be willing to give 110%. I don't have the luxury to let every disappointment keep me from staying focused on my ultimate goal of finding employment that I find to be meaningful and helpful to others.
I hope you give me the opportunity to work again. I am an amazing person with a lot of skills and I am enthusiastic about a position in a running or health-related industry.
Thank you!
